OUT NOW: TRAFFICKing data

From TikTok and Fortnite to Grindr and Facebook, Aynne Kokas delivers an urgent look into the technology firms that gather our data, and how the Chinese government is capitalizing on this data flow for political gain.

Trafficking Data is a medalist in the Axiom Business Book Awards “International Business and Globalization” category for 2023. Trafficking Data was also selected for the Independent Publishers Association's Gold Medal in the Finance/Investment/Economics category, as well as the long list for the International Convention of Asian Scholars' best book award in social sciences.

Zach Cooper from War on the Rocks put Trafficking Data on their 2022 Holiday Reading List, saying “Kokas examines how the Chinese government and Chinese companies approach data. She makes the case that the United States must get its own digital house in order before it can effectively address the challenges that China poses in the digital domain.”

Charles Dunst in the Council on Foreign Relations reviewed Trafficking Data, saying “Trafficking Data helpfully spans several sectors, including agriculture, social media, and gaming to make clear the challenge at hand.” He goes on to say “Practitioners, scholars, and the public would be wise to read her book. We would be wise also to consider not only how the United States can address this problem on a national scale, but how we can mitigate the risk of our own data being trafficked – because as Trafficking Data demonstrates, solutions will likely lie with us for the foreseeable future.”
